NORWALK, Conn. The Norwalk Junior Soccer Association's Under 11 boys Blue Devils won two games this past weekend. On Saturday, the Blue Devils easily won their first Connecticut Cup game in the Connecticut Junior Soccer Associations U11 boys bracket, beating Southington 6-0.
In the first half, forward Christian Gavriedis got the first score, with an assist by Eduardo Vargas, followed by two unassisted goals, both by center midfielder Jonathan Jiminez.
In the second half, midfielder Marcus Blair scored first, followed by Vargas off a corner kick. The final goal of the game came unassisted by Altair Marin.
Strong defense by Jeffrey Ramirez, Brendan Duddy and Nicholas Guzman and goalie Trevor Dalton kept Southington from scoring. The Blue Devils strong offense featured Liam Willkehr, Willem DeComte, Jean-Paul Osinloye, Tristan Massa and Sean Buzzee.
On Sunday, during CJSAs Southwestern district play, the Blue Devils scored another win, 3-1, over Wilton Blue in the A division. Wilton Blue scored first, quickly followed by a goal by Blue Devils forward Osinloye.
Norwalk midfielders Duddy, Gavriedis, Marian and Willkehr kept the pressure on Wilton, and Willkehr scored the second first half goal unassisted. The teams tough defense included Blair, Ramirez, Guzman and Dalton as goalie in the first half, joined by Carbin and Duddy, with Willkehr in as goalie in the second half.
The Blue Devils held Wilton from scoring in the second half with the addition of midfielders and forward Massa, LeComte, Buzzee, and Dalton. Gavriedis was the only Blue Devil to score in the second half, assisted by Marin. The win gives the Blue Devils their second for the Southwestern season, with one tie.
The Blue Devils face two more competitors this weekend: West Hartford for the Connecticut Cup game on Saturday, and Westport Blue on Sunday in the Southwestern district.
