Norwalk Runner Takes 2nd Among State Women At NYC Marathon

NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk’s Elizabeth Campbell finished second among Connecticut women Sunday in the  TCS New York City Marathon.

Campbell, 24, finished sixth in the 20-24 age group and ran 3:06:07 in her debut marathon.

Ridgefield High School cross country coach Bryan Kovalsky finished second among Connecticut runners and 84th overall in the marathon.

Kovalsky ran 2:36:51 in difficult conditions for the 26.2-mile race as runners faced chilly temperatures and stiff, gusty winds.

Joseph Darda of Willimantic was the top Connecticut finisher.

Among the other notable Connecticut finishers was Stamford’s Arturo Montero, 79, who ran in the first New York City Marathon. Montero ran  5:08:45.

Norwalk’s James Whipple ran 3:07:29, and was the 11th among state runners.

Sharon Vos of Old Greenwich led the women’s 60-64 age group. Her official time was not available.
