Norwalk River Rowing Team Cruises At Charles Regatta

NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk River Rowing Association girls rowing team lost a couple of key contributors from last year’s team. At the Head of the Charles regatta last weekend, however, it looks like the crew has new rowers ready to meet the challenge.

Norwalk River Rowing’s Women’s Junior 4+ finished 12th out of 85 crews in the regatta, which includes some of the best teams from the nation. The girls had Norwalk's best finish of the regatta with a unit that included Caroline Arnold, Amanda Jenkins, Julia Barr, Kylie O’Connor and Madeleine Appuzzo. The girls were coached by women’s youth head coach Catherine Labine.

The Men’s Junior 4+ finished 19th with David Sullivan, Stefan Petreski, Chad Ballard, Joseph Blake and cox Frankie Hogan.

Both crews helped Norwalk earn berths in next year’s regatta, considered one of the best fall meets of the rowing season.

Several Norwalk Masters rowers also competed at the Charles regatta. Juliet Brock returned from a torn ACL to compete in the 40+ Women’s 1x. The Women’s Club 4+ finished 39th with Elisabeth Stonehill, Laura Allen, Terri Polley, Hiromi Imai-Dellario and Colleen Magarian. The Masters’ 8+ rowed in the 50+ Masters division with Phil Negus, Bill Hawkey, Tom Helmkamp, Tim Hood, Alex Chapman, Ford Smith, Don. Loomis, Tom Luz and coxswain Malcolm Watson.
