NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk River Rowing Association’s youth team started its fall racing season on Saturday with an impressive showing, winning 14 medals at the Tail of the Fish Regatta in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

The regatta, which is held over a 3-kilometer course on Fish Creek, the outlet of Saratoga Lake, marked the first competition for the Norwalk River girls team under its new head coach, Drew Combs. The girls team raced 12 boats in eight events, coming home with a silver and two bronze medals.

Victoria Markow of Norwalk won a silver in the Girls Under 17 “B/C” single, with a time of 14 minutes, 48.15 seconds. Kelsey Ritchey, a Wilton resident, won a bronze medal in the Girls Under 19 “A” single, with a time of 15:31.31.

The team of Natalie Partlow, a Westport resident, and Savannah Driscoll, of Wilton, won a bronze in the Girls Juniors Double, crossing the finish line in 13:52.61.

For the Norwalk River boys, coached by Yuri Kolomiets, Kris Petreski had the best overall time in the Men’s Open Single event, at 12:8.76, but was awarded a bronze medal. In the Men’s Open Single, times are adjusted for age, and 63-year-old and 65-year-old rowers who finished about a minute and a half behind him, were given age-adjusted times to win the gold and silver.

Petreski, of Pound Ridge, N.Y., represented the Norwalk River Rowing Association on the United States team at the World Youth Rowing Championships in Rio de Janeiro last month.

At the Tail of the Fish, Liam McDonough, also from Pound Ridge, won a silver medal in the Boys Under 19 Single, at 12:36.63, about four seconds behind the winner.

In the Boys’ Junior Double, Kaare Andersen of Pound Ridge and Chris Martensson of Norwalk won a bronze medal at 12:6.74, four seconds out of second place.

Petreski, McDonough, Andersen and Martensson teamed up to win a silver medal in the Boys’ First Varsity Quad. Their time of 10:49.10, was about seven seconds behind the first-place boat.

Norwalk River won three medals in the Boys Under 17 Single. Oliver Peacock, of Wilton, won a bronze in the “A” race, while Kevin Lenihan of Wilton and Brad Hufnagel of Norwalk won a silver and bronze, respectively, in the “B/C” category.

Norwalk River won a silver medal in the Boys Second Varsity 8 “B” race.
