NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk River Rowing Association crews won 10 medals, including three golds, this past weekend at the Independence Day Regatta in Philadelphia.
Among the medal winners were Alex Stonehill and Caroline Demko, who teamed with Kylie O’Connor, Julia Barr and cox Vishesh Ramseh to win silver in the Women’s Junior 4+ final. It was the first competition for the recent Brien McMahon graduates since they were involved in a motor vehicle accident in June at the U.S. Youth Nationals in Tennessee.
Stonehill and Demko were riding in a van with teammates when a car driven by a wrong-way motorist caused the van to crash. The girls tried to compete in the championships, but were unable to complete their first race due to their injuries. O’Connor also made her return after a lengthy illness.
Demko and her father, Michael, added a gold in the Father-Daughter 2x.
Norwalk’s other gold medalists included the Men’s Junior team of Chad Ballard and James Koenigberg. Norwalk also won gold in the Men’s Junior 4+ with David Sullivan, Stefan Petreski, Kyle Mikesh, Matt Koenigsberg and cox Ronan Lane.
Norwalk added four silver medals and three bronzes as it continued to build upon its impressive spring season under coaches Yuri Kolomiets and Catharine Labine.
