NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk Riptide 16-and-under softball team won the consolation bracket of the Babe Ruth World Series Wednesday with a 4-0 victory over Fern Creek, Ky.
Amy Hurd tossed a two-hitter for Norwalk, which went undefeated in winning the Mark Raper Memorial Tournament bracket. The tournament in Wilson County, N.C. included nine teams that did not advance to the championship round of the series.
Norwalk beat the Kentucky team for the third time during the World Series. Hurd struck out five and Norwalk got the only run it would need in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Becky Stefanatos. Tori Dugan scored Norwalk’s first run.
Norwalk finished 6-2 in the World Series, with both losses coming by just one run. In four games in the consolation tournament, Norwalk outscored opponents 26-1 to cap an impressive showing in its first World Series appearance.
