LYNN, Mass. The Norwalk Riptide 14-and-under softball team lost 4-3 in 12 innings to Lynn, Mass., Sunday in the losers' bracket final of the New England Regional. The Riptide settled for a third place finish in the New England Regional for the second consecutive year.
Lynn loaded the bases in the 12th. The winning run scored on a slow roller up the first base line. Norwalk tried to get the force at home but the Massachusetts runner beat the throw.
Leslie Garcia, Katelyn Spielman, Nicole Bonanni and Alli Hall had two hits apiece for Norwalk, and Spielman had an RBI. Ryan Lajoie pitched another fine game for Norwalk, which lost one its top pitchers, Amy Hurd, to a broken nose early in the tournament .
Lynn defeated Norwalk twice, each time by one run. Many of the girls on the Norwalk team played on last year's 12-and-under team that finished third in the New England Regional.
