NORWALK, Conn. – They've done it again – a Norwalk Police sports team has won an Industrial League championship twice in less than a year.

The softball team won in October and, Wednesday night, the basketball team took top honors in a championship game at the Ben Franklin School.

The basketball team beat Diageo, 51-46. The softball team also beat Diageo.

Hector Delgado, coach of the team, said the success in the league operated by the parks and recreation department came as a "complete surprise." He started the basketball team three years ago as just "something to do in the winter," a way to keep in shape. It is sponsored by Ash Creek Saloon.

The softball team started in 1993, but there was a hiatus of at least a decade. He restarted it about five years ago.

The basketball team started the season 0-5, then won nine in a row. Winning was a team effort, although Germaine Nash, who was born and raised in Norwalk, was "a monster" defensively, Delgado said.
