NORWALK, Conn. University of Pittsburgh pitcher Matt Iannazzo, a senior from Norwalk, tied a school record Thursday with his 24th career victory in the Panthers 6-5 victory over Xavier.
Iannazzo, a lefthander who played at Norwalk High School, allowed two earned runs in seven innings. He improved to 3-0 on the season and yielded eight hits with no walks and six strikeouts.
Coming off a 3-1 win over Coastal Carolina, Iannazzo lowered his ERA to 4.21, which is the lowest among Pitt starters, and has struck out 22 and walked five.
Iannazzo was named to the All-Big East second team for the second straight year last year and had a team-high eight wins.
