Iannazzo returns to his hometown Bluefish for his second season in the Atlantic League and fourth of professional baseball.
“We’re excited to bring back a local product like Matt as our first signing of the season,” Bluefish manager Ricky VanAsselberg said. “He compiled some impressive numbers last year and we are hopeful he can continue his success in this league.”
Last year with Bridgeport, Iannazzo appeared in 32 games (19 starts) and picked up four victories with a 4.38 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 125.1 innings of work.
Before coming to the Park City, the 25-year-old pitched for two Chicago Cubs Single-A affiliates with the Boise Hawks and the Kane County Cougars in 2013. He compiled a combined 2-2 record with a 3.38 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 31 relief appearances, totaling 41.2 innings pitched. The lefthander began his professional career in 2012 with the Arizona League Cubs and the Boise Hawks after being signed as a free agent by the Cubs.
Iannazzo attended the University of Pittsburgh and is their all-time leader in wins.
