NORWALK, Conn. Norwalks Matt Iannazzo, a senior pitcher at the University of Pittsburgh, was named Wednesday to the preseason All-Big East team.
Iannazzo was one of four pitchers named to the team. He went 8-3 with a 2.73 earned run average in 102 1/3 innings last year for the Panthers, and earned a complete-game victory in a 7-2 decision over Louisville in the Big East Tournament.
The lefthander has 21 career wins at Pitt, three shy of the school record. He is fourth all-time in innings pitched and ninth all-time in starts with 32. This is the second straight year he has been named to the preseason Big East first team. He was a star at Norwalk High.
Pitt was selected eighth in the preseason poll by league coaches. Iannazzo is the top returnee on a team that lost the majority of its starting lineup to graduation.
The Panthers open the season Feb. 17-19 in the Big East-Big 10 Challenge in Florida.
