Norwalk Packers 6th-Graders Win 3rd Straight League Championship

NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Packers 6th grade football team won its third straight league championship with a 36-27 win over the Hartford Wildcats.

Norwalk suffered a 13-12 loss to Hartford in the 4th grade state title game in  2012 and a 32-26 loss in the 2013 state title game. Hartford also beat Norwalk, 19-12, during a regular season game earlier this year.

The Packers took an eight-game winning streak into the rematch, which was played in gusty, swirling winds.

Norwalk scored first on a 34-yard run by Khalil Eason, and Nemo Harris' conversion run stake the Packers to an 8-0 lead. 

Hartford answered with its own touchdown drive, but Norwalk extended the lead when Dean Tsinedis capped a 70-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown run. Norwalk missed the conversion.

Hartford returned the kickoff for a touchdown, and the Packers took a 14-13 lead into halftime.

Hartford grabbed a 19-14 lead in the third quarter before the Packers answered with a 70-yard touchdown run by quarterback A.J. Robinson Harris added the conversion for a 22-19 Norwalk lead.

Lorenzo Delphino's big stop on a fourth-and-one for Hartford got the ball back for the Packers. Eason then dashed 53 yards to make it 28-19 midway through the fourth quarter.

The Packers turned to the their defense from there. Khamari Davis made a critical stop to end another Hartford drive. Eason ran 50 yards to put the ball on the Hartford 20-yard line, and later scored on 1-yard run. Harris added the PAT.

Hartford scored with 26 second left on a 45 yard pass. Roderick Olson recovered the onside kick and Norwalk took a knee to end the contest.

Ihzya valentine had a sack for the Packers Angel Bettancourt, Koy Price, Austin Hall, Tommy Brown, and Thomas Hargrove all had stellar performances for the defense.
