Norwalk Meets Fairfield Prep in State Opener

NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk’s boys basketball team tries to extend its season Tuesday when it meets Fairfield Prep in the first round of the Class LL Tournament. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Fairfield Prep.

The Bears (10-10) are seeded 27th, while the Jesuits enter the game seeded sixth.

Under first-year coach Tom Keyes, Norwalk got off to a good start by winning five of its first six games. The Bears have gone 5-9 since beating Brien McMahon on Jan. 3, losing its final three games. All of those losses came against teams that qualified for the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference playoffs.

Norwalk is led by senior guard Rasheen Thompson, who averaged 13.4 points per game. Freshman Roy Kane Jr. averaged 11.5 per game and Ra’von Shular averaged  11.4. Jabari Dear is averaging 8.1 points per game.

Norwalk’s last state tournament victory came in 2003 in a first-round win over New Milford.
