NORWALK, Conn. Norwalk's and Brien McMahon's football teams hit the road this weekend for key games in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference. Norwalk visits Ridgefield Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff, while the Senators travel to Fairfield Ludlowe Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest.
Fridays game in Ridgefield is critical for the Bears , who suffered their first loss last week, 28-14, to New Canaan. The Bears are currently in 10th place in the race for one of the eight spots in the Class LL playoffs. Ridgefield is in sixth place. The loser of tonights game will almost certainly be eliminated.
It is particularly critical for Norwalk, which meets Harding and Fairfield Ludlowe in its next two games. Those teams have one victory combined. If the Bears win those, they would likely need a victory on Thanksgiving Day over crosstown rival McMahon to nail down a state playoff berth.
Norwalk is led by quarterback Delshawn Wilson , who has thrown seven touchdown passes and rushed for a team-high 277 yards.
McMahon might be the best 2-3 team in the state , with close losses to Fairfield Warde, Staples and New Canaan. The Senators hung on last week to defeat Wilton, 42-35. The Senators have a difficult stretch following the Falcons, with Ridgefield, Stamford Greenwich and Norwalk still on the schedule.
The Senators are led by quarterback Damien Vega , who completed 10-of-11 passes in last weeks win over Wilton, including the game-winning 9-yard touchdown toss to Zack OConnor with six seconds left.
