NORWALK, Conn. – Scrimmages are completed and the fall sports season begins for real, as Norwalk and Brien McMahon High School athletic teams play their first games Tuesday. Other opening games continue throughout the week.
Below is the schedule of season openers for fall sports teams at Norwalk and McMahon.
The boys' soccer team takes on Greenwich at home at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. The Bears were 13-1-2 in the 2011 regular season and advanced to the Class LL state semifinals before being eliminated by Trumbull.
The boys' and girls' cross country teams both compete in their first meet Tuesday. The Bears travel to St. Joseph to take on the Cadets, Greenwich and Bridgeport Central for a 4 p.m. meet.
The field hockey team kicks off its season at 7 p.m. Wednesday at home against Stamford. The Bears, who went 12-2-1 last season, reached the Class L championship for the first time in school history before falling to top-seeded Cheshire.
The girls' soccer team travels to cross-town rival McMahon for its opener at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Norwalk went 2-13-1 last season.
The girls' volleyball team opens its season on the road at Westhill at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Norwalk went 3-15 last year.
The girls' swimming and diving team competes in its first meet at powerhouse Greenwich at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
The Norwalk High football team hosts Danbury at 7 p.m. Friday. The Bears were the biggest surprise of the 2011 season, going 8-1 and winning their first-ever postseason game.
The McMahon boys' soccer team opens its season on the road at St. Joseph at 4 p.m. Tuesday. The McMahon boys went 4-12 last season.
The boys' and girls' cross country teams both compete in their first meet at 4 p.m. Wednesday in New Canaan. The Senators compete against the Rams, Westhill, Danbury and Fairfield Ludlowe.
The field hockey team travels to Danbury for its opening game of the season at 4 p.m. Wednesday. The Senators went 6-7-3 last season.
The girls' soccer team hosts cross-town rival Norwalk for its opener at 7 p.m. Wednesday. McMahon was 5-10-1 last season.
The girls' volleyball team will host St. Joseph in its opener at 4 p.m. Wednesday. The Senators went 5-13 last season.
The girls' swimming and diving team travels to Greenwich at 3:30 p.m. Friday for its first meet.
The Brien McMahon football team hosts Fairfield Warde in its opener at 7 p.m. Friday. The Senators went 3-7 in 2011.
