Program director Randy Haus said all of the Mad Bull coaching staff members are returning this year to help out in developing one of the best youth wrestling programs in Connecticut.

“It’s not easy keeping youth wrestling coaches intact from year to years,” Haus said. “Each year that passes, some key kids age-out of the program and go on to high school, but our staff has been consistent, even with our intense commitment to practice and the competition schedule. So far, we have been blessed to have such a tight and cohesive coaching staff, we’re all on the same page, all with the same vision, and developing the Mad Bull youth wrestling program here in Norwalk."

Haus and his staff have decided to start an all-girls team this year, complete with two female coaches. Two former high school teammates from Brien McMahon High School plan to combine their efforts for the all-girls team startup. Chrissy SantaLucia-Cormier will join Lauren Tallman, a former NCAA wrestling All-American from Menlo College, to spearhead the all-girls squad.

“Chrissy was an outstanding addition to the coaching staff last year,'' Haus said. "We had great participation and representation at most of the tournaments with several girls leading up to the states, we hope to improve on the number of girls joining the team this year."

Haus, a native of Minnesota, started the program four years ago and was joined by coaches David Slapin and Art Schad to round out the staff for the first few years. The team now has nine USA Certified wrestling coaches.

Haus said the club is looking for beginner wrestlers, both boys and girls, in the first through eighth grades. No experience is necessary, although the team is looking for mature, hardworking and focused kids looking to get introduced to the sport of wrestling.

“Our wrestling club has a great combination of kids working hard in practice, getting physically fit, having fun, giving back with community service and learning all about teamwork along the way,'' Haus said.
