Mad Bull program founder and director Randy Haus was pleased with the results and said the team continues to break new ground in youth wrestling with the growing four-year program.
“This is a first for us as a wrestling team, preparing the girls for state competition with our wrestling club, we were all excited to see how we would match up with some of the best girls in the state, the results were fantastic, the girls really stepped it up and poured on the training in practice this week, obviously it paid off,” Haus said.
Anna Haus fell behind in her first match, before sticking with her game plan and pulling out the victory. “Anna stayed very calm and worked her moves, her technique was text book Mad Bull style today,’’ Randy Haus said. “The moves we have been drilling all season long was what kept her in the match and eventually crowned the Champion. I’m a proud Dad and coach today.”
Cali Gilchrist, a second-grader and the youngest girl wrestler on the Mall Bulls, lost in the finals. Gordon, an eighth-grader, beat three opponents before falling in the finals.
“Calli surprises a lot of people once the whistle blows, she’s all business, she works her moves and never stops putting pressure on her opponents” said Haus. “We have plenty of time to develop her skills as she is one of the youngest female wrestling competitors in the area, we are very proud of her efforts being so young but she’s definitely got some amazing talent."
Coach Art Schad congratulated Gordon.
”Maddy came to the program with very little experience and became a student of the sport almost immediately, she asked relevant questions and worked so incredibly hard in practice all season long,’’ Schad said. “What an effort from the beginning until the end here at the state finals.”
