“We’re about five or six weeks away from the State qualifier and State Open, so the training and intensity is starting to pick up and building in our own wrestling room,” Program Director Randy Haus said. “We try to peak for the season ending tournaments, we squeeze as much out of the kids in practice as we can, pushing them to their limits, they have been responding with tremendous focus and effort.”
Haus added: “On another note, our Newbie team kids traveled to Colchester Connecticut and had a great time, 38 kids in all got some much needed experience and had a blast rooting for each other while being supportive teammates and getting their first taste of what competition in the sport of wrestling is all about."
Head Coach Art Schad summed up the mid-season effort from the Newbie Mad Bull wrestling squad noting that the kids were “hungry and anxious” to finally get into competition.
“We had 60 wrestlers competing last weekend in Colchester and Danbury combined, that’s a team first for the Mad Bulls having so many kids compete in one day, we had some outstanding results all the way around,'' Schad said. “We have a tremendously dedicated coaching staff, that’s the only way we could pull this off, making sure the coaches were not only present but engaging each wrestler as well, going over the finer points of competition and our lessons learned along the way, they’re an amazing bunch of coaches."
Schad also commented on the level of competition in the Danbury Tournament that saw five Mad Bull wrestlers come out on top as tournament champions for the Mad Bulls, led by team captain Koy Price, Nemo Harris, Jaylen Carter, Ryan Monti and Mikey Bartush.
Also medaling for the Mad Bulls in second place were Dean Tsiranides, Jakari Walker, Jack Cahill, Carlo Tucci, Quincy Carter, Colin Falla, Jacob Gonzales and Nicky Singer, while Justin Gierum, Robert Gierum, Nick Augeri, Noah Fraas, Jason Singer and Asiah Baez continue to show promise with impressive efforts in a tournament packed with experience and talented youth wrestlers from the Tri-State area.
