“This is the time of year when the kids transition from fall sports like football and begin the process of knocking of some rust on their wrestling technique and timing, they start to condition for the long season grind of wrestling competition,'' Program Director Randy Hau said.
“The current Mad Bull roster now stands at 90 Norwalk youth wrestlers with a nice blend of experienced and beginner kids to make practice interesting and challenging to say the least, we put the emphasis on wrestling technique and conditioning, so far all of the kids have responded nicely,'' coach Art Schad said.
Leading the way for the Mad Bulls were Nick Augeri, Jeff Cocchia and Phoenix Gardella, all going 5-0 for the day for the Mad Bulls and winning the tournament , with Augeri pinning all five of his opponents. Dean Tsiranides, Jacob Gonzales, Mikey Bartush, Justin Gierum, Mikey Schneider and Carlo Tucci all went 4-0 for the day.
Second graders Will Motley and Nicky Singer were crowned champions in the Bantam division and continue to impress the coaches.
Outstanding performances were also turned in by Quincy Carter, Colin Falla, Marianna Hernandez, James Motley, Ryan Schneider, Brendan Gilchrist, Jason Singer, Andre Talbot, Michael Marini, Asaiah Baez, JT Schneider, Zavier Hernandez, Calli Gilchrist, Rylee Donohue, Ryan Gilchrist, Anthony Marini, Jack Edwards, Mikhail Moss, Aiden Donohoe, Noah Fraas, Robert Gierum, Artie Cocchia, Charlie Prather, Koy Price, Connor Gilchrist, Elijah Murphy and Holden Zerega.
“We were aggressive all day long and pushed the action, in most cases we set the tempo of the matches, we can drill technique all day long in practice, but it’s nice to see moves executed in live competition, that being said, the kids were relaxed enough to work on technique, very methodical, very workman-like and efficient when the whistle blew to start the action.” Schad said.
Next up for the Mad Bulls will be The Bristol Holiday tournament on Sunday.
