Norwalk Little League Team Reaches Tournament Of Champions Final

NORWALK, Conn. – After winning its first two games in the District 1 Little League Tournament of Champions, Norwalk Little League champion Signature Landscaping will meet Stamford National for the title Saturday night.

Signature Landscaping won its 11th straight game Wednesday with a 12-1 win over Ridgefield American. Stamford National advanced with a 6-1 win over Darien, setting up Saturday’s championship game at 7 p.m. at Bill Terry Field in Wilton.

Javier Gonzalez smacked a three-run, two-out double in the first inning to spark Signature Landscaping in the win over Ridgefield. Cooper Grillo hit a two-run home run, and Kyle Gordon had three hits and scored three runs.

Andrew Romaniello delivered an RBI single, while Cameron Hurd had two hits and two RBIs. He scored on an inside-the-park home run. Artie Cocchia also had two hits and two RBIs, and Joe DiIorio made two catches in the outfield. Grillo allowed two hits over four innings before Danny Miller came on in relief.

Norwalk defeated Wilton in its first tournament game, 18-1, behind the pitching of Gordon and Hurd. Gordon had two hits and four RBIs.

Stamford National beat Rowayton in its first game of the tournament and has won nine straight games and 12 of its last 13.

The 10-team District 1 Little League Tournament begins next week. Opening ceremonies are scheduled to begin Wednesday, June 25, at Scalzi Park in Stamford.
