Norwalk Hockey Players Root For New York Rangers

NORWALK, Conn. – Players for the Connecticut Oilers Eastern League team, based at Norwalk's SoNo Ice House, are cheering on the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference finals.

Players for the Norwalk based Connecticut Oilers team, Todd Jackson of New Canaan, Danny McMullen of Ridgefield and David Canfarotta of Stratford say they're very excited for the way the New York Rangers have been playing in the post season.

“I’m pretty excited,” said Todd Jackson of New Canaan, a forward for the Oilers.

Jackson said the Rangers' five-game win streak may be due to the team coming together after the recent death of the mother of teammate Martin St. Louis.

The Rangers lead the Montreal Canadiens in the series, 2-0. The New York team needs to win two more games in the seven-game series to reach the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in two decades.

“I think it’s awesome. I’ve been a fan forever, and I was born in ’94 when they won last time,” said defenseman Danny McMullen of Ridgefield. “It would be great to see them win 20 years later.”

The Rangers last won the Stanley Cup in 1994, beating the Vancouver Canucks four games to three, in a seven-game series. That had been the first cup for the team in over 50 years.

For forward David Canfarotta of Stratford, it’s more exciting to see how thrilled his father and brother are by the Ranger wins.

“It’s big for them,” he said. But “it is awesome.”

The Rangers continue their Stanley Cup bid in their third game against the Montreal Canadiens at 8 p.m. Thursday.
