NORWALK, Conn. - The Norwalk High School football team waited 13 years to get back to the state playoffs. So what's an extra hour drive?
The fifth-seeded Bears (8-1) will travel to fourth-ranked Conard (9-1) in West Hartford for their first-round Class LL state playoff matchup . The game is scheduled for Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m.
Norwalk defeated cross-city rival Brien McMahon , 17-0, on Thanksgiving to clinch a state playoff berth. The last time Norwalk made the state playoffs, in 1998, the Bears were defeated by eventual champion Southington.
Other Fairfield County teams that qualified for the playoffs are Staples, New Canaan and Ridgefield. Second-ranked Staples will take on conference rival and seventh-seeded Ridgefield at Wilton High School on Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the Class LL tournament. New Canaan, seeded fifth in the Class L playoffs, travels to fourth-ranked New London on Nov. 29 for a 6:30 p.m. game.
