NORWALK, Conn. Norwalks Tommy McDonagh finished tied for second Wednesday in the Connecticut State Golf Associations Palmer Cup tournament at the Country Club of Waterbury.
McDonagh, who plays out of Shorehaven, finished with a 54-hole total of 1-over-par 208. Sam Bernstein won with a total of 4-under 204.
New Canaans Curtis Loop, Greenwichs David Pastore and Brian Hughes of H. Smith Richardson in Fairfield also had top 10 finishes.
McDonagh shot a final-round 72 with two birdies and five bogeys. He got off to a good start in the tournament, opening with a 66 with four birdies and a bogey.
Pastore shot a final-round 71, and finished tied for sixth place at 211. Hughes finished 10th at 216 after a final round 72.
Bernstein shot 69 in the final round after entering the final 18 holes with a one shot lead on McDonagh.
The Palmer Cup is the premier amateur stroke play tournament conducted by the state association. It also conducts a match-play tournament, the Connecticut Amateur, which is scheduled for June 25-29 at Race Brook Country Club in Orange.
