The Norwalk Sonics under-12 soccer team won the Scarsdale Memorial Day Tournament for the third straight year. The Sonics are a member of the Norwalk Junior Soccer Association.
In their first game over the weekend, Norwalk tied regular season rivals Wilton Blue, 0-0, in a hard-fought game. The Sonics went on to beat the Scarsdale Jaguars, 2-0, and Scarsdale Galaxy, 3-1. In the final game, Norwalk won, 3-0, over the Munay Soccer Stars, to clinch first place.
Christy Russo, Kate McKinnon, Lindsay McEwan and Pilar Gonzalez all scored during the tournament, with Russo racking up an impressive five goals. Strong midfield support that made this all possible came from Nazae Craw, Evelyn Morris, Caroline Abrams and Elvira Kariois.
The defense was equally impressive with goalkeeper Amanda Barker conceding only one goal all tournament. The stellar Sonics defense consisted of Olivia Lipson, Kathleen McElaney, Leah Zezima, Lindsay McEwan and Nazae Craw.
