Norwalk High School's freshmen football team bounced back from a season-opening loss to defeat Staples, 27-8, on Thursday.
Offensively, the young Bears had more than 250 yards rushing. Running back Kevin Morales rushed for three touchdowns, and Justin Burke had one TD. Morales added three extra points. The rushing attack was powered by an offensive line featuring Doug Knowles, Mitchell Ronzitti, Noah Raymond, Cory Barrett, Chris Lato, Ryan Davis and Zack Larusso. Fullbacks Brendan Hanzlik and Aiden Whalen also helped pave the way.
The Bears limited Staples to one touchdown pass and a conversion. They forced three turnovers. Richard Tuck and Ben Morales each had interceptions, and linebacker David Bright recovered a fumble.
The Bears, which lost their opener to Greenwich, 31-6, take on the Trumbull Eagles on Thursday, Sept. 30, at 4 p.m. at Andrew's Field.
