NORWALK, Conn. Norwalk High Schools Edwin Rosales finished 28th to lead the Bears in Saturday in the Class L state cross country championships at Wickham Park in Manchester.
The Bears finished 10th in team scoring with 306 points. Brien McMahon senior Chris Madaffari, who finished fifth in the league championships Monday, missed the Class LL meet with an illness. He had been expected to be among the top contenders in the boys race.
Rosales ran 17:37 on the 5-kilometer course. Dashiell Murphy, Ian McGrath, Christian Bonebroke and Malik Weir rounded out Norwalks top five.
Claire Turner led Norwalks girls, finishing 60th. Jessica Balasa, Alexandra Troetti, Jessica Sebastian and Yuliya Quinn were Norwalks other scorers.
The top runners and teams will return to Wickham Park Friday for the State Open championships. Complete results of Saturdays race are available on www.casciac.org.
