Ryan succeeds Tony Schwartz, who will remain a special adviser to the league. Schwartz will also continue coaching and serving on the Board of Norwalk Babe Ruth Baseball serving kids ages 13 to 15. Schwartz served six years as league president.
Ryan, a longtime Norwalk resident and director of media asset services for A+E Networks in Stamford, is a former collegiate rower and basketball player. A lifelong fitness enthusiast, he has been coaching in the Cal Ripken League for seven years. Ryan also coaches youth basketball, soccer and flag football.
“Sean brings tremendous energy, experience and vision to the position. He has great ideas for the future of the league and, together with the newly elected board, I am confident that he will follow through on his ideas,” Schwartz said.
“I am so pleased with the composition of our new board and have no doubt that the league will only grow stronger in the future. Primarily because of Sean’s attention to detail, the State of Connecticut Norwalk Cal Ripken Board recently announced that Norwalk will host the 11 year-old state championship Tournament in July of 2015 at the newly renovated Timothy Devine Field.”
Schwartz spearheaded the league’s merger with Cranbury Baseball in 2013. Under Schwartz’s leadership, Norwalk Cal Ripken Baseball has more than doubled in size since 2008 to nearly 500 players. It remains one of the most respected and most ethnically and economically diverse youth baseball programs in the State of Connecticut.
“Tony has been an esteemed member of the Norwalk baseball community for many years and he has increased our numbers year after year as well as strategically positioned our league for future growth in a number of ways,” Ryan said. “He has set a foundation which we intend to build on for years to come. We’re a baseball league. But we are also in the business of creating memories and a sense of community that will resonate with our players throughout their lives.”
Early registration for the 2015 season begins on Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Pump It Up at 145 Main St. in Norwalk. Registration will also be held on Thursday, Nov. 6, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at The Batter's Box, 327 Main Ave. There is a $15 discount for players who register in person.
