NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Cal Ripken 9-and-under All-Stars advance to the state tournament by defeating Stratford, 11-9, in extra innings, in the District 1 title game on Friday.
Norwalk will play in the Cal Ripken Connecticut State Championship tournament July 20-26 in Danbury.
Friday night’s dramatic seven-inning victory was the third time in four days that Norwalk and Stratford waged a thrilling contest. Each game came down to the final heart-wrenching inning.
In Friday's game, Norwalk took an early 6-0 lead before Stratford rallied to tie the game in the third. Norwalk led 8-7 in the sixth before Stratford scored to force extra innings. Norwalk scored three in the top of the seventh, and held off one final Stratford rally.
Earlier in the week, Norwalk overcame a 9-3 deficit in the sixth inning to win on Tuesday, 13-10. On Thursday, Norwalk trailed 8-3, rallied to tie the game in the sixth and then lost, 9-8, in eight innings.
