The tournament is being played in Dover, N.H.
Down 2-1 against the New Hampshire state champions in the top of the sixth inning, Norwalk (24-2 overall) rallied for four runs before relief pitcher Brendan Edvardsen closed the door in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win for Norwalk.
No. 9 hitter Chris Ely led the offense with two hits and three RBIs while Brendan Edvardsen and Mike Berkowitz reached base three times each for Norwalk.
After Kam Walker and Vance Ward drew walks to open the sixth, Mike Berkowitz laced a single to left center to load the bases. Chris Ely then drilled a single into center to score Walker and Ward.
After a walk to pinch hitter Jake Palmer, AJ Robinson singled to center, scoring Berkowitz. Ben Boccanfuso reached on a fielder’s choice to load the bases again, before Kyle Root drew a walk to force in the fourth run of the inning, giving Norwalk a 5-2 lead that held up for the victory.
Center fielder AJ Robinson and left fielder Kyle Root made several spectacular catches each, including Root’s gem, reaching over the left field fence to rob Swanzey of a two-run home run in the fifth inning.
Norwalk pitchers, who have yielded a total of only two runs during the first two games of the tournament, include starter Jeremy Cooke (3 IP, 2 runs), Vance Ward (2 IP, 0 runs) and Edvardsen (1 IP, 0 Runs).
Norwalk now faces in-state rival Newtown in the winner’s bracket semifinal on Tuesday night in Dover.
