The tournament will feature the state’s top eight 11 year-old Cal Ripken teams based on district qualifying tournaments earlier this month. The double elimination tournament will be held July 18-25 at Tim Devine Field, 32 Midrocks Drive. The winning team will advance to the Cal Ripken New England Regional Tournament in Dover, NH (July 31-Aug. 8). All games will be played using 70-foot bases and a 50-foot pitching distance that are hallmarks of Cal Ripken youth baseball in the 11- and 12 year-old age groups. “We are thrilled to be hosting the 11/70 Cal Ripken State Championship tournament,” said Sean Ryan, Commissioner of Norwalk Cal Ripken Baseball.  “It’s truly an honor and a first for the Norwalk Cal Ripken program.”

As tournament hosts, Norwalk Cal Ripken’s 11 year-old squad automatically qualified for the Connecticut State Tournament. The team captured first place out of 12 state-wide teams at the prestigious Al Leonard Jimmy Fund Invitational Tournament last month in Bethel. The Norwalk 11s are coached by Mark Boccanfuso, who is assisted by Mike Palmer, Dave Ely and Hank Berkowitz.

Players are: Mike Berkowitz, Ben Boccanfuso, Jeremy Cooke, Brendan Edvardsen, Chris Ely, Jayden Gonzalez, Jake Palmer, Zion Profit, AJ Robinson, Kyle Root, Kamron Walker and Vance Ward.

“The Connecticut State Tournament is something we have working toward since hosting the 11/70 District Tournament in 2014, as well as our inaugural Memorial Day Tournament this past May,” said Ryan. “It’s a chance for us to continue to build on our prior successes and extend the Norwalk Cal Ripken brand.”
