Norwalk's Bertony Jean-Louis, a graduate of Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk, was named the Northeast Conference Track Athlete of the Week earlier this month. The Sacred Heart University junior broke his own school and conference records in the 60-meter hurdles to win the award.
Competing at the Harvard University Open, Jean-Louis won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.01 seconds. That eclipsed the previous school and conference records he set last year by 0.01 seconds. He is the top-ranked athlete in the event in the conference and in New England. He is 10th among all NCAA Division I hurdlers.
Jean-Louis also finished seventh in the 200 meters at the Harvard Open. The Pioneers have meets every weekend in January as they prepare for the NEC Championships beginning Feb. 12 in Landover, Md.
