NORWALK, Conn. The Norwalk Youth seventh-grade boys basketball team outscored Shelton 16-0 to start the game en route to a 48-13 victory Monday in the Dave Finch Tournament at Ben Franklin School.
Norwalk (3-3) held Shelton to 10 minutes without a point and opened up a 20-4 halftime lead. Norwalk, coached by Steve Irish, had a balanced attack. Vince Abirilla scored 12 points and Donta Backman, Matt St. Louis and Colin Burke added eight. Khris Little. Guard Miles McQuillen had four points and several nice assists that led to easy baskets.
Norwalk returns to the court Tuesday at 5:10 p.m. against the Phoenix. It returns to action in the Fairfield County Basketball League on Jan. 7 at Danbury.
The rest of Tuesdays schedule includes Stamford vs. Shelton in a sixth-grade boys game at 6:20 pm, Westport vs. Norwalk in an eight-grade boys game at 7:30 and White Plains vs. Shelton at 8:40 p.m. in a seventh-grade boys game.
The tournament continues through Saturday.
