NORWALK, Conn -- The Norwalk Girls Basketball Association seventh grade travel team won four games to capture the recent New Castle Youth Basketball tournament. Norwalk improved to 13-2 on the season.
Norwalk opened the tournament with a convincing 52-21 win over Scarsdale. Asiah Knight pumped in 20 points and Amanda Beckwith scored 12 to lead the scoring. Shania Osborne added 8 points while Shyanna Bullock scored 6, Areti Filippidis scored 4 and Whitney Fulton had 2.
Norwalk then defeated St. Mary's of Katonah, N.Y., 35-20. Osborne (13 points) and Knight (1 0points) led the way. Beckwith and Bullock added 4 each while Fulton and Filippidis scored 2.
Norwalk completed pool play by defeating the hosts from New Castle, 38-23. This set up a rematch in the final and Norwalk again prevailed, 37-20 for the title. Knight led all scorers with 12 points in the final while Beckwith scored 7. Osborne and Fulton added 6 each while Aaliyah Grasty scored 4 and Seena Panagiotiis added 2.
