NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk Youth Basketball fifth-grade boys team won the Rock the Bells Christmas Classic tournament last week in Bridgeport.

Norwalk lost its opening game, 36-28, to the Bridgeport-based CT Express, an AAU squad. Norwalk bounced back with a win over the Fairfield Minions, 33-26, and PHD of Fairfield, 23-20.

In a championship game rematch against the Express,  Norwalk won 45-34. The victory capped a grueling four-game stretch in less than 24 hours. .

"Despite the opening round loss, we thought that we could compete against Bridgeport if we played as a team and competed hard the entire game,’’ assistant coach Bob Fassett said. "I give the boys a lot of credit for pulling it out on tired legs."

Norwalk is 8-3 overall and 5-0 in the league as it heads into its next game in the Fairfield County Basketball League on Saturday against Darien White (5-0).

"It was a tremendous experience for our boys to play in a double-elimination format tournament against some very good teams," coach Charwin Agard said. "We've only been together six weeks as a team and this should give the boys great confidence for FCBL play in January."

Norwalk’s team members are Daniel Goodnow, Jack Fitzpatrick, John Fassett, Jonathan Coffy, Jordin Mitchell, Kobi Agard, Michael Langley, Nick DiIorio, Owen Liscio, Ras Fisher, Tad Condon-Carr and Tristan Joseph.
