Norwalk 5th Grade Football Team Wins 2nd Straight League Title

NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Packers fifth grade football won its second straight Colonial Football championship Sunday with a 13-7 victory over Newtown.

Norwalk opened the scoring on a 10-yard run by quarterback A.J. Robinson. Dean Tsirinedes ran in for the extra point to give Norwalk a 7-0 lead.

Norwalk’s defense, led by Izaya Valentine, Thomas Hargrove, Lorenzo Delphino, kKamari Davis and Koy Price, kept Newtown’s offense at bay all game. Price intercepted a screen pass and scampered 40 yards for another Norwalk TD late in the second quarter to put Norwalk up 13-0 at the half.

Price had two interceptions and Robinson had one. Delphino, Valentine, Hargrove and Tserinides all had sacks for the Packer defense.

Newtown scored late in the third quarter.

Norwalk (9-0) is 17-1 over the past two seasons against conference opponents. The Packers advance to the state championship, where they will face Hartford at Kennedy Stadium in Bridgeport on Sunday.
