Norwalk 5th Grade Football Team Reaches League Title Game

NORWALK, Conn. -- The undefeated 5th grade Norwalk Packers advanced to the Colonial Conference championship game after a 26-0 win over the Danbury Hatters.

Mysonne Pollard led the Packers with two touchdown runs, an extra point and a TD pass. Pollard broke a scorless first half with a 42 yard touchdown run with 4 minutes remaining, and Camryn Edwards ran in the extra point. Pollard scored again with an 11 yard TD run to open the second half behind QB Matt Claps.

Edwards gave the Packers a 20-0 lead with a 67 yard TD run with Pollard rushing in the extra point. To close out the Norwalk scoring, QB Chase Meyer pitched the ball to Pollard, who threw a 19 yard TD strike to  Justin Oliver.

Also running the ball for Norwalk was Robert Young, Jaylen Carter and Sajan Porter. Tight end Tahjir Lee kep ta Norwalk scoring drive alive with a 16 yard reception from Claps, and Randy Mones had a 15 yard run behind QB Ryan Gilchrist leading to Norwalk's second score.   The defense was led by Meyer, Pollard and Edwards with 18 combined tackles, Sajan Porter and Tahjir Lee with four tackles each, Randy Mones, Claps and Robert Young with two sacks each, and Brendan Arroyo with a fumble recovery.

Norwalk will take on Bridgeport, who defeated Hartford, for the CVL Championship on Sunday at 10 a.m. At Brien McMahon High School.

The Packers, coached by Jim Wrinn, are 9-0 on the season with four shutouts. The team has shut out its last three opponents, and has outscored opponents 284-44 in its nine games. Norwalk beat Bridgeport in a regular season game, 26-13, in September. That was the only loss of the season for Bridgeport, which has blanked its last five opponents.
