Norwalk 10-Year-Old All-Stars Reach District Final

NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk 10-year-old All-Star baseball team reached the District 1 championship game Tuesday night with a 5-1 victory over Darien National. Norwalk will meet Wilton for the title Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Springdale in Stamford.

Korey Morton scattered three hits in 3 2/3 innings to earn the win. Cooper Grillo got the save, allowing just one hit. He got out of a sixth-inning jam when Darien loaded the bases and had the tying run at the plate. Morton also played well defensively at shortstop. Brandon Frederique had two doubles and drove in two runs. Stephen Arduino had two hits and two RBIs.  Arduino also made a nice catch in center field for Norwalk. Trey Diurno drove in the first run for Norwalk with a sacrifice fly in the second.

Norwalk has won five straight games in the tournament. After opening the tournament with a 6-2 loss to Ridgefield American, the team has rebounded to outscore opponents 68-7 in its winning streak. Wilton is 4-2 in the tournament and defeated Ridgefield National in the other semifinal Tuesday.
