NORWALK, Conn. In a battle of two of the top-ranked teams of the Norwalk Rec Softball Wednesday Night Wood Bat League, Ninety-9 Bottles got a huge boost in the standings. Chris Kassimis ripped a go-ahead triple in the bottom of the sixth to score John Hegedus from first. The hit secured an important come-from-behind 7-5 victory over Bill and Tony's Power Club with just one game left in the regular season .
Power Club got to Hegedus, Ninety-9 Bottles' starting pitcher, early for five runs. Hegedus settled down after the third inning though, allowing just one hit in the final four frames.
Trailing 5-4 in the fourth inning, Nick Ianazzo crushed a double off the wall, scoring Kassimis to tie the game. Ninety-9 Bottles thought they had the lead with Ray Demond hot on Kassimis's heels, but he was thrown out at the plate.
Luckily for Ninety-9 Bottles, that play did not come back to haunt them. Hegedus led off the bottom of the sixth with a single, setting up Kassimis' heroics. Kassimis scored on an error to give his team an insurance run. Hegedus then sat down Power Club in order in the top of the seventh to end the game.
With the victory, Ninety-9 bottles moves into a first-place tie with Gators in the Wednesday night league . Both have 12-3 records. They hold a half-game lead over Bill and Tony's Power Club (11-3).
