FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – New Canaan’s Charlie Cole and his teammates on the Men’s Four will row for an Olympic medal Saturday after winning their heat Thursday morning at the London Games.

Weston rower Nick LaCava competed Thursday in the Men’s Lightweight Four, and his teama finished second in the “B” final.

Cole's crew won its semifinal race in 6:01.72 to earn a trip to Saturday’s final. The U.S. team enters the race with the third-fastest time, behind Great Britain and Australia. Great Britain won Thursday’s other semifinal, followed by Australia. Germany, Greece and the Netherlands are the other crews in the final.

LaCava and his teammates finished second behind France in Thursday’s B final. South Africa won the gold, followed by Great Britain and Denmark. The U.S. missed a chance to compete for a medal when it finished fifth in Tuesday's semifinals. The B final is for crews that did not qualify for the A final, which determines the medal winners.

Darien’s Rob Crane was 26th Wednesday in the Men’s Laser. He did not compete Thursday. The seventh and eighth races are scheduled for Friday.
