Mid Fairfield 12U Girls Play for National Title

The Mid Fairfield Stars under-12 girls hockey team won the Tier I Regional tournament and will play in the national championships next week in Detroit.

The Stars, made up of players mostly from lower Fairfield County, won the regional tournament with a 4-3 victory over the Connecticut Polar Bears in the championship game. The Polar Bears had defeated the Stars, 2-0, earlier in the tournament. The Stars defeated the CT Northern Lights, 2-1 and 3-2, and also defeated Vermont, 6-1, en route to the title game.

The Stars will take a 20-18 record into the national tournament. They are coached by Caitlin Barnes and Kate DeForge. They open the national tournament Wednesday, April 6, against the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite.

Team members include Darien's Gillis Frechette, Meghan Halloran and Annabel Nottebohm; Greenwich's Courtney DeNaut; Wilton's Amanda Hendry; Fairfield's Paige Wikman, Lauren Hoey, Anna Rasmussen and Courtney Scheetz; New Canaan's Isabella Marciano and Katherine Somerby; Westport's Katharine Paliotta; Stamford's Caroline Silk; Rye's Emma Siefert; and New Rochelle's Sarah Ince.
