NORWALK, Conn. Brien McMahon senior Chris Madaffari finished fifth overall and first among runners from the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference Saturday at the Wilton Invitational.
Norwalk's boys took second in the large schools division, and sophomore Claire Turner finished 28th in the girls race for the Bears.
Madaffari ran 17:11 for the 3.15-mile course at Allen's Meadow. Fairfield Prep's Connor Rog won the race. FCIAC teams from New Canaan, Fairfield Ludlowe, Trumbull and Darien also competed. Prep won the boys large school title, while Weston won the small schools division.
Ian McGrath (25th overall) and Edwin Rosales (26th) led Norwalk, trailed closely by Christian Bonebrake (28th). Dashiel Murphy (18:33) and Dylan Ramirez (19:31) rounded out the top five runners for Norwalk. All of the Bears' scorers are underclassmen. Greenwich's Abigail Markowitz won the girls race.
Turner also had a strong race for Norwalk, finishing in 19:18 for the 2.8-mile course. She averaged 6:54 per mile and was followed by teammates Alex Troetti, Jenn Roginski, Marisa Noonan and Jenna Sheridan. Troetti is a junior, and the other four sophomores, giving the Bears a promising foundation.
