Maritime Rowers Compete at Henley

A crew from the Norwalk-based Maritime Rowing Club will compete Thursday in the Henley Royal Regatta in England, one of the world's most famous rowing competitions.

"This is the first time in a few years we've sent a team to Henley, '' Maritime coach Yan Vengerovskiy said. "We're proud to be part of it, and we're anticipating a good race."

The team of Henry Franco, Scott Yanoff, Mike Squitieri and Collin Hill will compete in the Fawley Challenge Cup. Franco and Yanoff were part of the same team that won the Men's Youth 4x A Final at the U.S. Youth Rowing championships earlier this month. Two other members from that team, Charlie Campbell and Jonathon Rosow, competed in the U.S. Junior National trials this week in New Jersey. The team competed in the U.S. Youth Nationals as New Canaan Crew.

A second Maritime crew also traveled to England and attempted to gain a spot in the Henley. The lightweight quad of Ned Berman, Nick Flynn, Eddy Nilan and Sam Wiley competed in a 61-crew qualifying race last week. Only the top eight earned a spot to row in the Henley Regatta. Maritime finished 21st.

Complete information on the Henley Regatta is available on the race website.
