Maniacs Outkick Weston in Soccer

Norwalk's Maniacs, the Norwalk Junior Soccer Association's under-13 travel team, scored a 3-2 victory over the Weston Warriors on Sunday. The team now stands at 2-2 for the season.

A strong Norwalk defense led by Ciran O'Reilly, Christian Willkehr, Ian Anderson and Jeffrey Arteaga, with the quick hands of Maniacs' goalkeeper Thomas Mendola, kept Weston at bay in the scoreless first half.

Then forwards Alex Espinosa, Eric van der Els and Marvin Best kicked into high gear in the second half as Norwalk scored three consecutive goals. Espinosa scored the first, with an assist by van der Els, who quickly followed with a goal of his own, this time assisted by center mid-fielder Jaime Mandujano. Espinosa scored the third goal, with the assist going to mid-fielder Alex Ceja.

The strong offense was rounded out by mid-fielders Marcus Garcia, Ivan Avalos, Luis Mandujano, Diego Partoda and Diego Arteaga.

Weston came back with two goals in the final 15 minutes. The Maniacs will next play Bethel on their home field, Broad River, on Sunday.
