NORWALK, Conn. — King School linebacker Evan Townsend-Henry from Norwalk strives to not only excel on the football field, but to also be an excellent person off the field, which is why he was nominated for USA Football's 2017 Heart of a Giant award .

The Heart of a Giant award recognizes high school athletes who inspire greatness on and off the field. Players are nominated for demonstrating characteristics like commitment, character, teamwork, dedication and will. Townsend-Henry was nominated in Week 2 of the award.

Townsend-Henry said that his dedication is what stands out about him. He also spoke about how he tore his meniscus over the summer while attending a camp, and while it prevented him from playing the sport he loves, he was eventually able to recover. He said the experience helped him improve as a player and as a person.

"For our football team, we believe that what one does off the field effects everyone, and I live by that. I strive to create an example for my teammates off the field and on. I try to be the best player on the field no matter the circumstances," he said.
