Junior Rowers Compete in World Meet

Rowers from Westport, New Canaan, Southport and Weston, along with coaches from Norwalk and Wilton, begin action Wednesday at the World Rowing Junior Championships in Eton, Great Britain.

The rowers include athletes from Norwalk-based Connecticut Boat Club, Norwalk's Maritime Rowing Club and Westport's Saugatuck Rowing Club.

In the Men's Eight+, rowing's signature event, Westport's Max Meyer-Bosse (Saugatuck Rowing Club) and Alex Perkins will be on the U.S. team. Perkins competes for Kent School.

One of the unique pairings for the U.S. is the Men's Doubles Sculls, where Weston's Graham Anderson, who competes for Saugatuck Rowing Club, will be paired with Charlie Campbell of New Canaan. Campbell competes for Maritime Rowing Club. Maritime's Jonathon Rosow will be competing in the Men's Quadruple Sculls.

Connecticut Boat Club has three girls on the U.S. team. Southport's Lucy Grinalds will row on the Women's Four, while her sister, Rosie, will compete on the Women's Pair. Deirdre Fitzpatrick will row on the Women's 8+.

Westport's Lizzy Youngling, who rows for the GMS Rowing Center in New Milford, is on the Women's Quadruple Sculls.

U.S. coaches include Liz Trond of the CBC and Maritime's Yan Vengerovskiy and Volodymyr Opaluyk. Guenter Beutter of Wilton, who directs the GMS Rowing Center, is also on the U.S. staff. Results will be posted on the worldrowing.com website.
