Donovan Mitchell Jr., who grew up in Elmsford, was drafted in the lottery on Thursday, picked by the Utah Jazz 13th overall, who moved up in a big trade to select him.

The Jazz traded third-year forward Trey Lyles and the 24th overall pick for the rights to Mitchell, who starred for Rick Pitino at Louisville. After being drafted, Mitchell was overcome with emotions when interviewed at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn on ESPN, expressing his gratitude and joy.

The son of a New York Mets official, Mitchell averaged more than 14 points and five rebounds for Brewster Academy, a prep school in New Hampshire. As a breakout sophomore at Louisville, he averaged nearly 16 points per game on 40 percent shooting from the field. According to Sports-Reference, he averaged more than 19 points on average per 40 minutes.

An all-ACC first-team choice, Mitchell led the league in steals while starring for the Cardinals.
