Ireland Hopes Enthusiasm Lifts Norwalk Football

NORWALK, Conn. - A year after Brien McMahon High School posted its first winning season under a new young coach in A.J. Albano, crosstown rival Norwalk High is following suit. Sean Ireland will step up from the assistant position, taking over for longtime coach Pete Tucci. Ireland's boisterous personality is obvious on the field as he cracks jokes but remains firm with his players.

In the accompanying video, Ireland discusses Norwalk's strengths and what the Bears need to do to get their first winning season since 2008. He also talks about lessons he learned from his predecessor, Tucci, and his relationship with Albano.

Norwalk starts its 2011 campaign on the road at Danbury High School on Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. The Bears also make trips to Trinity and Ridgefield. They will head to rival McMahon for the 51st annual Thanksgiving Day showdown. Norwalk will host Stamford, Westhill, New Canaan, Harding and Fairfield Ludlowe at Testa Field.
