Hockey Players Take Break To Help the Hungry

The Mid Fairfield Stars 14-and-under girls hockey team players, coaches and families volunteered their time at a local food bank in Pontiac, Mich., during a break between games in the Tier I national hockey tournament.

The Stars packed 7,200 meals that will be distributed to hungry families throughout southeastern Michigan. The team wanted to give back to the community that is hosting the tournament.

The Stars were awarded "Best Spirit Costumes" at the opening ceremony of the national tournament. The girls dressed in full body blue suits and performed a dance routine. The team is also honoring former Yale hockey player Mandi Schwartz by wearing decals with her number on their helmets. Schwartz died April 3 after a length battle with cancer.
