Shaun, a student at the Hackley School in Tarrytown, is currently ranked 11th in the nation in Youth-10 Boys Saber.

He started fencing when he was seven encouraged by his father, who always admired the sport and enjoyed watching his college friend compete at Princeton University.

Shaun took to fencing quickly and began competing just last year. He placed seventh in his first tournament.

The athlete trains at Tim Morehouse Fencing Club in Port Chester, owned by U.S. Silver Medalist Tim Morehouse.

“Our goal is build champions on and off the field of play and while the results are important," Morehouse said.

"Shaun and his teammates fence with spirit and work hard, support one another and are good sports when they compete."

The club is ranked 7th in the country in youth fencing. At the recent North American Cup, which involved over 2,000 youth competitors from across the country, nine fencers from Tim Morehouse Fencing Club in Westchester and Manhattan earned national points, including three from Greenwich: Shaun, Robert Wang and Max Denner, who is now ranked 8th nationally in Youth-12 Boys Saber.

Three fencers brought back national medals.

Shaun’s medal and the silver medal won by Aria Bevacqua, who trains at the Tim Morehouse Fencing Club in Manhattan, represent the first North American Cup medals in Youth-10 Saber earned by the club.

Shaun is excited about his progress and has fun with his fellow fencers. Looking ahead, Shaun has qualified for the Summer Nationals in St. Louis, Mo.

When he’s not fencing or doing his homework, Shaun competes on the YMCA swim team in Greenwich and enjoys golf and skiing.
