Greens Farms Takes League Tennis Crown

The Greens Farms Academy girls varsity tennis team took the Fairchester Athletic League (FAA) championship Wednesday with a win over St. Luke's .

GFA was undefeated in league play this season with a record of 7-0. The 6-1 win over St. Luke's brings GFA's overall record to 10-1. With a deep and extremely talented team, GFA was able to dominate league play this season, beating strong teams from Greenwich Academy, Convent of the Sacred Heart and St. Luke's. The team's only setback was a close 3-4 loss to unbeaten powerhouse Hotchkiss School in a non-league match.

Coach Monique Rutledge's GFA players also picked up the lioness' share of  FAA All-League honors this year: Frankie Garofalo (freshman, Norwalk), senior captain Maggie Harwood (Fairfield), Olivia Kjorlien (sophomore, New Canaan), Kyja Kutnick (sophomore, Redding), Caitlin Rummelsburg (sophomore, Fairfield) and Hayley Sanzone (junior, Redding). Receiving an Honorable Mention is Taylor Schendel (junior, Fairfield).

#4 singles: Maggie Harwood defeated Emily Coleman, 7-5, 6-1

#1 doubles: Olivia Kjorlien & Hayley Sanzone defeated Lauren Douglass & Alison Douglass, 6-4, 6-3

#2 doubles: Regi Monroe & Taylor Schendel defeated by Kelly Seaver & Charlotte Seiler, 6-0, 6-4

#3 doubles: Jessica Liu & Suzy McGrath defeated Lily Robinson & Cassie Christopher, 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (7)

#4 doubles: * Isabelle Canaan & Caroline Sullivan defeated Greta Joung & Allie Christopher, 8-6 (*exhibition)
